Cape Point Vineyards
Cape Point Vineyards, renowned for its exceptional Sauvignon Blanc, is beautifully situated amid Noordhoek's rolling hills and lush valleys, a region rich in history and natural beauty. This enchanting area was first encountered by the Portuguese navigator Bartolomeu Diaz, who, while navigating treacherous waters, was driven past the Cape by a violent storm in 1488. Following Diaz's discovery, the Dutch arrived in 1652 and began cultivating the fertile land, setting the stage for future agricultural development.
In 1997, winemaker Sybrand van der Spuy embarked on a journey to rejuvenate this historic land by planting new vines. After thorough soil and climatic analyses, he carefully selected the site for the first Sauvignon Blanc vines, which began to establish their roots on the south-facing slopes of the majestic Constantiaberg Mountain. This initiative honoured the land's heritage and marked the inception of Cape Point Vineyards.
By 1998, the establishment of Cape Point Vineyards brought about the official recognition of the Cape Point Wine of Origin District, making it the sole winery in this distinctive region. The unique microclimate, influenced by the convergence of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, creates an ideal environment for grape cultivation.
The breathtaking surroundings inspire Head Winemaker Riandri Visser, who is dedicated to crafting wines that truly reflect Cape Point's distinctive terroir. Through her meticulous approach to winemaking, she produces stunning varietals that embody the essence of this remarkable landscape, showcasing the depth and character of the land’s unique offerings.
